Crystal Faulkner, CPA, CExP, MAFF, partner and market leader for MCM CPAs & Advisors, has been elected chair of The Ohio Society of CPAs (OSCPA) and will be installed later this summer.

Faulkner, previous president of OSCPA’s Cincinnati chapter, is enthusiastic to work on initiatives within the profession at state and national levels, including changing the perspective of the CPA role to include advisory services and strategic business planning.

“The profession is evolving from basic assurance and tax services to strategic advisory services,” shared Faulkner. “CPAs can help clients understand their problems at the root and then solve them. By helping our members embrace the advisory mindset, they will be better equipped to bring more value to their clients, Ohio’s businesses. Clearly tax and assurance services are as critical as ever. However, businesses want and need their trusted advisor to also understand their issues and provide tools and resources to help them be more successful. We have witnessed this firsthand during the COVID-19 crisis. CPAs were on the front lines helping clients navigate the complex issues needed to survive then thrive after COVID.”

The OSCPA’s commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the accounting profession is supported by Faulkner’s plan. Faulkner is enthusiastic that the new advisory mindset of the CPA profession encompasses attracting top talent, which includes recruiting diverse creative thinkers and problem solvers who will be naturally gifted in both traditional CPA efforts and advisory service tasks.

“We’re excited for the passion and experience Crystal will bring to the Executive Board chair role,” said Scott Wiley, CAE, president and CEO of OSCPA. “Her unwavering commitment to the accounting profession and business community will continue to further our efforts of advancing the state of business in Ohio and building value for our members.”

Faulkner has been a long-standing and active member of OSCPA, as well as the Ohio Small Business Advisory Council, where she has advocated for the Ohio Business Income Deduction, enacted in 2010. In addition to her service to OSCPA, Faulkner serves as partner and leader of the Cincinnati market for MCM CPAs & Advisors. In her role at the firm, Faulkner leads strategic business advisory efforts as a professional EOS implementer, working with business owners and leadership teams to grow the value of their companies.
