Michael Mountjoy Elected Chairman of The Gheens Foundation

Michael Mountjoy has been elected chairman of The Gheens Foundation, a large Louisville-based private foundation started by Edwin Gheens and his wife Mary Jo Gheens. Mountjoy will succeed current Chairman Morton Boyd. Boyd will continue as a trustee of the Foundation and Carl Thomas will continue as Foundation President.

Mountjoy, also managing partner of Mountjoy Chilton Medley LLP, has served on the Foundation’s board of trustees for the past 15 years.

“It is an honor to follow Morton Boyd and Joe Stopher in this leadership role at the Gheens Foundation.” Mountjoy said. “We plan to carry on the tradition established by Edwin and Mary Jo Gheens to fund projects that improve the quality of life in our communities.”

Founded in 1957, the Gheens Foundation is one of the largest private foundations in Kentucky, distributing $4 million dollars annually through grants and donations, supporting several not-for-profits in the Louisville area. The Foundation helped establish the Jefferson County Public School’s Gheens Academy, a resource center providing professional training for teachers, and has substantial investments in the Cardiovascular Innovation Institute and Metro United Way’s Gheens Bridges to Tomorrow project.

The Gheens Foundation’s stated mission is to improve the quality of life for all citizens and institutions of Metropolitan Louisville and Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes in Louisiana through creative grant making and philanthropic leadership to meet the present and emerging need of our communities.
