LOUISVILLE, KY (June 8, 2018) — Now in its ninth year, the 2018 Accounting MOVE Project report found that women comprise 25% of the management committees at participating firms—a huge advance from the 19% reported in the 2014 report. Still, progress is incremental overall, with women remaining at 24% of partners and principals at CPA firms.

That means the bar continues to rise for candidates for the annual MOVE Project Best Public Accounting Firms for Women list, recently released by the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA).

In its fifth straight year of inclusion in the Project, MCM CPAs & Advisors was once again named one of the Best CPA Firms for Women, as well as a Best CPA Firm for Leadership Equity. This demonstrates consistent, measurable progress in advancing women to leadership; proven and evolving programs that retain and advance women; and clear and compelling integration of the business case for advancing women.

At MCM, women comprise 65% of the firm’s managers, 60% of senior managers, and 50% of directors. Nearly 40% of partner and principal roles are held by women, and up and comers are encouraged to lead via firm programs like the WIN (Women’s Inspirational Network) Committee, business development training and sponsor relationships. In 2018, MCM will also host its inaugural MCM Women’s Summit, in which all female team members will gather for a day of tailored programming. Additionally, MCM is one of the only Top 100 firms in the United States in the region with a female managing partner.

“Leadership equity is something I take very seriously at MCM,” said Diane Medley, Managing Partner of MCM CPAs & Advisors. “We focus a lot on the programs, culture and mentoring relationships that will allow and encourage our women to thrive at every level of advancement.”

Top Insights from the 2018 Accounting MOVE Project:

  • A philosophy of aligning wins for women with wins for leaders and for firms overall creates common ground for shared wins.
  • Firm aspirations are set by top leaders but middle managers actually convert to culture change.
  • Men add invaluable insight as women’s initiatives sharpen their focus on barriers unique to women.
  • When men ask that programs designed for women be opened to them, too, firms have a chance to reinforce the unique value of women’s programs and to explore what the women’s programs are doing that overall training programs are not.
  • Women’s initiatives inform umbrella diversity and inclusion initiatives with proven logistical models and by illustrating the lasting importance of personal stories that inspire and inform rising women.

“The national conversation about diversity is taking many of its cues from what is proven to work to advance women,” said Joanne Cleaver, President of Wilson-Taylor Associates, Inc., the content strategy firm that manages the MOVE Project.
